Kishi Bashi is an alias for, and project of, renowned violinist, multi-instrumentalist, loop artist and songwriter Kaoru Ishibashi. His captivating virtuoso musical ability has fostered a groundswell of devotees.
Kishi Bashi’s Kickstarter-funded debut album 151a was self-released, recorded and produced in 2012. NPR awarded it the “Best New Artist of The Year”. It received applause from Huffington Post, Paste, Spin, Stereogum, and many others. Microsoft, Smart and Sony licensed songs from the album for commercial use.
Kishi Bashi has since toured across the globe and has played in major festivals such as SXSW and Austin City Limits and Utopiafest. Concert and festival photographer Chris Hooper (aka AoxoA) presents images of Kishi Bashi’s live show at Utpiafest 2014 and media clips from various sources.
Warpaint, an all-female quartet, has a Sirens gift for sounds filled with subtle pleasures. The hypnotic and lovely vocals float within gorgeous psychedelic reverb and skeletal guitar lines. The music is typically classified as indie, art, and dream rock.
Their early level of success began in 2008 with a self released EP called Exquisite Corpse. The EP, mixed by Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, ranked number one on Amoeba Records local artist chart. The Cold War Kids seemed to explode onto the scene in 2006 with their major label debut album Robbers & Cowards. Their blues-rock influenced indie sound earned them a cult like following. As album sales quickly approached 200,000 copies, the band embarked on a worldwide non-stop tour that lasted two years.
The Cold War Kids continue as a successful band. Their albums chart in the upper end of the Billboard 200 with two reaching the 21st positions.
